Challenges and Opportunities in the Development of New Offshore Fields in Brazil: the experience of IOCs, NOCs and independent companies.

04 May 2027
Room 600
Technical Session
The development of new offshore fields continues to pose significant challenges for operators and asset owners — spanning technical, regulatory, economic, commercial, and execution-related dimensions. Although there is no universal formula for success, some factors consistently prove critical: robust planning and disciplined execution across all project phases, strong collaboration with key stakeholders and suppliers, effective risk management, and rigorous attention to detail throughout the project lifecycle. This session will examine the experience of IOCs, NOCs, and independent companies in developing new offshore fields in Brazil through a wide range of technical approaches, including the construction of new FPUs, the relocation and modernization of existing units, and subsea tiebacks to existing infrastructure. The session will feature both recently commissioned fields and projects currently under construction, highlighting the key challenges operators face in delivering complex offshore developments and achieving first oil within planned schedules and performance expectations.
