From Terabytes to Decisions: Technology Advancements & AI Reshaping Field Development Planning
05 May 2027
Room 306
Panel
Field development planning is increasingly constrained not by lack of data, but by the challenge of converting large, fragmented technical and project datasets into timely, decision-grade development options. At the same time, technology is advancing rapidly: AI, interoperable data platforms, scalable compute, automation, and knowledge-enabled workflows are expanding what technical teams can do and how quickly they can do it, and add value. This panel will examine how technology advancements can materially impact/improve subsurface field development planning by enabling faster scenario generation, more integrated cross-disciplinary analysis, stronger reuse of historical knowledge, and better handling of uncertainty across subsurface, wells, facilities, economics, and schedule. The discussion will also address what is required to make these capabilities practical and trusted: governed data, interoperability, traceability, engineering rigor, and human accountability.
